Okay. The "make clean" isn't going to do much, you'll want to untar
the original installer again.
What are the settings of ANT_HOME and JAVA_HOME? What does "ant -
version" return? What does "ant --noconfig -version" return?

I deleted the distribution ant packages (making sure the config files
in /etc were gone), did a make clean, re-configured, and re-made.
