Thanks.

I am using Pegasus WMS that interprets DAX and generates Globus DAG to run on a Condor pool. The description involves GridFTP to refer to various resources.

Grid FTP may be used only to pass on necessary resources to Condor jobmanager and Condor does the rest to distribute jobs to Execute nodes or it may still require GridFTP to distribute and get back output etc, I don't know.

I will try first without Globus installed on Condor execute nodes and see what happens.

By the way, I have already installed Condor before Globus, so I ran configure with:

$ export GLOBUS_LOCATION=/usr/local/globus
$ ./configure --prefix=$GLOBUS_LOCATION --enable-wsgram-condor \
--with-buildopts="-verbose" --with-flavor="gcc32dbg"

Without Condor running and without the flavor specified, it seems to complain. I also read it somewhere that RedHat may complain without the verbose.

Also, this ends with warnings:

#############################################################
##############################################################
...
...
You will still need to run the following command as 'root' to enable
this machine to *accept* sshftp connections. This will create the
file /etc/grid-security/sshftp.

    $GLOBUS_LOCATION/setup/globus/setup-globus-gridftp-sshftp -server
...
...
#############################################################
##############################################################

...
...
Warning: Host cert file: /etc/grid-security/hostcert.pem not found. Re-run
         setup-globus-gram-job-manager after installing host cert file.

Since this does not create /etc/grid-security/sshftp (I think) and also there is no host certificate installed yet (even a CA has not been setup yet), it seems it is necessary to run these two scripts. (The latter needs to be done after setting up MyProxy).

I have been running both scripts as post-installation.

In your instruction, setup-globus-gram-job-manager is totally missing. Is this a problem?

Also, this same script was referred in the Condor manual and it says to run with --type=condor. However, I get an error massage that it is an unknown type (or an option - now I am not sure which it was).

I never tried to run configure without --enable-wsgram-condor, so I don't know whether it warns to configure it for Condor later and how.

I think that these matters (both action options and what to do with Condor later) need to be mentioned.

Thanks,
Yoichi

I was thinking that I needed to install Globus on all nodes in the Condor pool, since the GridFTP may go both ways.

But I need to install GridFTP only on a Condor Submit node(d) that may refer it? Or, even it can refer to a host on which the Globus (GridFTP) is installed?

As to GRAM, RFT or index service, I understand that it needs only one each per Condor pool.

Within the condor pool, condor will handle file transfers. You might want to install the GridFTP client tools on all your hosts, I don't know. It's not required, but it might be useful to you. In that case, you can run "make globus-data-management-client" to only install the pieces required to use globus-url-copy, or "make gridftp" to install both the server and client pieces.
