For posterity, the FormTiddler and DataTiddler plugins worked perfectly in this context. I used form tiddlers to create a duplicate of the info needed by the spreadsheet, which then uses DataTiddler to save the data as plain-text JSON formatted information within the text of the tiddler.
Then, using ForEachTiddler, I followed the example on the Abego extensions site (http://tiddlywiki.abego-software.de/) for building a table from the data. That data copies perfectly directly into the Excel spread sheet. Works perfectly.
