Yes, both of ".*" and "()" work on my system.
Note that it's still easy to crash GtkG: simply enter a faulty regex
(e.g. "(") into the new fileinfo regex widget and press enter. This
will trigger the same failed assertion. Entering a valid regex works
without problems.
