John, You're timing is excellent for one of Southern California's premier events, the Del Mar Mile and concours. It's a dirt track race, vintage bike meet and other stuff all in one taking place that weekend. Del Mar is just north of San Diego, just about70 minutes south of L.A. by I-405/I-5. And San Diego County has some of the best motorcyle roads on this particular planet. Check HTTP://www.vjmc.org/greg/oct_event.htm#9 for some additional info. In fact, how many GTSers are interested in attending the show and meeting up? Saturday works out better for me. On Sunday, there is an HSTA meet in Idywild, another really sweet ride up the local mountains near L.A. John (and anyone else), you're welcome to attend that and meet a friendly bunch of sport-tourers. And John, if those events don't give you enough riding around, there is the well known Angeles Crest and many nearby roads. Look for Highway 2 on your map and any off-shoot that looks interesting on paper is. Mulholland is another famous one, but is better for smaller bikes and in my book isn't as much fun. Feel free to email me off-list if you want specifics and are interested in meeting up at one or more of these events. -Jay In a message dated 10/1/99 7:04:13 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: >Does anyone know of some good or great roads, mountain cafes and interesting > >places or events to visit in Los Angeles?
