Yes, as I said before this not necessarily a long term permanent fix, but
it's a huge step in the right direction for Yamaha and I think we need to be
careful and tactful in our further communications with them. Let's allow
some time for everyone to aire their opinions and then I suggest I could
call Jordan to bring up the subject of our concerns about long term
reliability, HU's that fail in the future, maintenance procedures,
malfunction lights, etc. Also don't forget that the NHTSA is now involved
and their investigations may force Yamaha to do more than just replace
failing components with the same component.

Personally, I am grateful to have gotten this far with Yamaha. I am pretty
sure, knowing what I do now of the super-sensitivity of the brake system to
air/water, that if I can start over with a new unit I can probably make sure
it lasts a long time. I believe this would mean religious fluid changes at
least every 6 months with activation of the ABS unit during changes, regular
"exercising" of the ABS brakes, perhaps even stripping and cleaning of the
unit every couple of years - all of which are above and beyond published
Yamaha maintenance requirements. I know this is not an ideal solution but I
can live with it. If the NHTSA "convinces" Yamaha to provide a modified/new
HU designed to ensure long term reliability I will be even happier.

Cheers Joe.

Replacing the units is definitely a good thing. However...
My concern is what will prevent it from going bad next time? Why doesn't the

warning light go on when the ABS is failing?
I've already had my unit replaced at no charge after warranty was up (even
though the bike has less than 4,000 miles on it). But will it happen again?

Will I not find out about it until I mash the brakes when a deer runs across

the rain-slick highway? One reason I got this bike was for the excellent ABS

brakes. But if I can't rely on them to be there in an emergency, that's a
major safety issue. Is Yamaha going to address that?
