My experience (and I've got to order another set of tires soon) is that the 180/55 
rear looks good, but the lower profile means that the center flat spot will show up 
sooner, even though there's still tread. The tire profile is "flatter" than the 170/60 
rear to begin with, and unless you're able do enough fun riding to wear out the edges 
first, you'll end up replacing the tire because the handling has deteriorated before 
you're absolutely out of tread.
