I use a quick wipe down with brake cleaner on the rear wheel to remove
everything.  So far the clear coat is intact, but it probably will come off
eventually by this method.  When this happens I will anodize the wheels.  No
elbow grease required with the brake cleaner method,  I spray it on the rim
(mindfull of overspray on the tire, surroundings, etc.) wipe off with rag. -
clean tire.  I then clean/coat the rim with Cando (minor elbow grease)
