I don't have the numbers in front of me, but the Yamaha Road Star is a
1600 cc air cooled twin that is belt driven and it's got to be kicking
out some serious torque. Virtually all dragstrip cars with blowers use a
belt drive. (Some do use gears though!) Many Japanese cars have belt
driven cam belts.
I guess all that I'm saying is that I bet the technology to make the
belts stronger and last longer has improved over the years and that they
might last a bit longer than one would suppose.
And you don't have to oil them!! (Wonder if they stretch...?)
