On a different note, I have some thoughts about the skybus.  I am
very apprehensive about the future of the project. Its inventor and
the prime mover behind the concept - Mr. B. Rajaram - has retired as the CEO of Konkan Railways. The committment behind the project seems to be there in the small team he built around it in the KRCL and even in KRCL as a whole, but the Railway Ministry does not seem to be so enthusiastic about it. Without a powerful advocate, its future could be bleak.

Already, there are people like a former Cabinet Secretary, who is promoting alternatives like the Malaysian-consortium of monorail builders.  I have heard reports of state Governments being favourably disposed towards the project.  If they go ahead with it,
it could spell disaster for the skybus proposals in these cities.

My fingers are crossed. The skybus needs one person in responsibility to bite the bullet. Once a full-scale project is built, the concept will get greater acceptance. In this first project, we should be prepared for setbacks and be willing to learn through them. If we are afraid of setbacks right from the outset, we will be doomed to continue importing technology.

Even the Malaysian monorail is a good example of an indigenous
effort - during the Asian economic crisis, the project was in danger of being shelved due to cost escalation (in local currency terms) of the Japanese project. Instead, Mahathir Mohammed, the PM of Malaysia encouraged local industry to take up the challenge. And they did so
successfully. With the skybus, we have a case of an Indian effort
that has great potential, but nobody ready to take the risk.

And I feel helpless about it.  I have written to people in authority, including the Railways Minister and the Prime Minister about this project.  But I doubt that the letters were even read - I certainly did not receive any replies.  I don't know what else I can do to help bring this promising project to fruition.  Any suggestions?

-------- Somehow only the Railways & the Highway Authorities are fond of writing Margao as MADGAON   ----------
Are Salcette-kar happy with this version of re-naming their popular township ?
