Jebel Ali International stun Le Meridien

DUBAI Jebel Ali International Hotel emerged winners when they stunned favourites Le Meridien Al Aqa 2-1 in the final of the DSS inter-hotel football tournament at the Modhesh Fun City, at the Dubai World Trade Centre halls.
Le Meridien Al Aqa took a fifth minute lead through Roshan Subba following an excellent move with Mohammed Tawab and Ahmed Hashem. But Brian Almeida put Jebel Ali on level after Ismail Hussain had failed to hold on to his shot. Almeida struck again after the break to earn Jebel Ali a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Earlier in the day, Jumeirah Beach Club Resort pipped another strong side Carlton Hotel 4-3 in the third and fourth place playoff.
Marriott claim hotel volleyball title
J W Marriott won the inter-hotel volleyball tournament by defeating Le Meridien Al Aqah 2-0. Dusit Dubai Hotel, meanwhile, defeated Le Royal Meridien by identical margin in the third and fourth place playoff.
Floral Trading Open volleyball champions
Floral Trading Company of Sharjah, shocked favourites Appella Watches 2-1 in the final of the Open volleyball tournament. Floral Trading took the first set 28-26. But Appella levelled 1-1 after winning the second set 25-17. Floral Trading, however, came back strongly in the deciding set winning 25-23 and the match.
Aptec Mobiles lift womens volleyball title
Aptec Mobiles recovered from a set down to beat Emirates Flight Catering 3-2 in an exciting final of the womens volleyball tournament. Emmy, Jovita Vergara, Magnolia Ardon and Jo Ann Pila put up a fine display for the catering team who won the first two sets 15-9, 15-13. But Aptec got well organised to draw level 2-2 after taking the third and fourth sets 15-10,15-10 to force a decider.
After a prolonged tussle in the opening stages of the deciding set, the more experienced Aptec girls took control to win the set 15-11 and the title. Earlier, Masood John Brown overpowered Golden Workshop 3-2 in a close match to finish third.
Divar win Open football
Vaxim Divar won the Open football tournament after beating Siolim United 3-2 in a penalty shootout. The match ended 1-1 during the regulation period. Thomas Lobo and Randel Pereira scored for Divar in the shoot out while Russel Rodrigues, Orlando Viegas and Russell Rosario missed. Clifford Fernandes scored for Siolim while Remy Fernandes, John Sequeira, Shriram Vernekar and Abdul Sheikh missed.
