Goa to host national meet on cashew
 

Mumbai, Sep 26.(PTI): Over 200 delegates from the cashew industry will deliberate on issues like improving cost effectiveness and outlining policies and programmes for the industry at the `India Cashew Convention' that begins in Goa on September 30.

The three-day convention will see participation from processors, exporters, traders and brokers from major cashew growing and processing centres such as Kollam, Mangalore, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.

"The key issues to be discussed during the convention are the strategies for increasing raw nut production in India, promoting and marketing cashew kernels in the Indian market, risk management and steps towards improving cost effectiveness in operations," a release said here today.

The convention is being organised by commodity research and advisory firm Foretell Business Solutions and Karnataka and Goa Manufacturers' Associations.

The organisers said the Indian cashew industry urgently requires appropriate policies and programmes for ensuring adequate supply of quality nuts, modernisation and technology advancement for developing quality systems and focussing on exports.

The industry also plans to give a concrete shape to the formation of a federation for the cashew industry.
