The 36th International Film Festival of India-2005 to be held in Goa from November 24 to December 4 will offer a treat of around 200 films from all over the world to the lovers of cinema. Elaborating on the plans for the IFFI, Mr Afzhal Amanullah, director, directoate of film festival and joint secretary, information and broadcasting ministry, told the mediapersons here that the competition section of the festival will consist of entries from not just Asian countries (as earlier) but also from the Latin American and African countries.
Process of shortlisting entries for competition section as well as the for Indian Panorama (recent Indian movies/documentaries) has already begun. The jury for the competition section will be headed by Miguel Littin, Chilean director.
In retrospectives section, films of Ismail Merchant, well-known Hollywood director of Indian origin who passed away recently, will be screened. Viewers will also get to see films made by German film-students.
This apart, the retrospective section will have films on French actress Isabelle Huppert, Italian director Lina Wertmuller and recent films from Iran.
There will be also a retrospective on legendary director, Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
For the Indian Panorama section, which will have both feature and non-feature films, veteran film-maker, S M Sathyu will head the jury for feature films whereas Manipuri film-maker, Ariban Syam Sarma will chair the jury for non-feature films.
The IFFI-2005 will be held at Kala Academy, which has 900 capacity auditorium, along with cineplex Inox and some other theatres in the city. Festival office will be located at old GMC complex, Campal, in the city.
Some three thousand delegates are expected to attend the festival, for which Goa will be now a permanent venue.
Apart from various retrospectives and competition section, a new feature would be section on films on Indian musical traditions.
Another introduction is a segment called NFA Gold, in which the movies that had won the Presidents gold medal 50 years ago would be screened. This year, the Marathi film Shayamchi Aai (Shyaams mother) and Hindi film Mirza Ghalib would be screened.
Vanmala Devi, the actress who played central role in Shayamchi Aai, and who is now her 90s, would be attending the screening.
The festival will also pay homage to late Sunil Dutt and Gemini Ganesan both of whom passed away this year and a couple of their movies would be screened.
Apart from screenings including a few premiers the festival would also have pavilion section - bazzar - to promote Indian movies and India as a destination for film shootings in the world market.
