This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Delgado Bluefin VII Lifeboat v1.0 (GURPS Traveller TL7)
  Copyright 2009 by Onno Meyer

The Bluefin VII has been designed for worlds rich in metal and poor in
petrochemicals, where wooden planks and gas engines are impractical. The
waterworld Rangent in the Spinward Marches has recently started license
production.
The lifeboat has a fuel cell powering the small screw, and six oars in
case the hydrogen runs out. The coxwain in the stern controls the engine
and a small radio. A locker in the bow holds food and water for perhaps
three days, and perhaps a flare gun if it wasn't pilfered. The hydrogen
tanks, stowage locker and engine compartment are distributed to provide
some buoyancy in case the boat gets swamped.
At full power, the fuel cell burns 4.5 gallons of hydrogen per hour. A
full load of fuel and provisions is $424.

Subassemblies: Body +4.
Powertrain: Six oars; 30-kW light screw propeller; 30-kW fuel cell;
  900-kWs lead-acid batteries.
Fuel: 400 gallons hydrogen (fire 13).
Occ: 7 XCCS, 13 XCS.

Design Notes
Body is 400 cf, with mediocre lines and heavy compartmentalization.
Structure is light, standard. Armor is standard composite. Waterproofed.
Mechanical controls. 2.15 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 3,000 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, January 2007 errata], VXi and VXii (including the armor volume
rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite. GURPS Traveller affects
the design decisions, but not the available technology at this TL.

Next Week: A floating port.
