Hi Russ, I have run mine down twice until it turned off. Both times I plugged in the AC cord and waited about ten minutes. The unit powered up just fine at that time.
I now tend to plug it in as soon as it tells me the battery is low the first time, provided I'm somewhere I can do so. Otherwise, I shut it off and wait until I can plug it in.
