Personally, I would give a vote for the default being the male voice. I guess this is a bit prejudice coming from a woman, but there are very few women's voices I can listen to as narrators. In the NLS, there are a few which are fine, and while Kate is certainly better than the wisky voice I had on the Stream, I now find I listen to the male voice just about exclusively.
