Hello Nicky. I can't verify your BookSense registration. Did you
purchase it from us? If you purchased it from someone else in a
different part of the world, the manual and functionality of a different
firmware may not be the same as in the U.S. version of the BookSense.
Section 1.6 of the manual talks about charging the BookSense and it does
not specifically mention that USB only charging is not enough if the
battery is completely dead. I have marked this down to be included in
the next version of the manual for the next update.
Many thanks.

Hi Raul and list,
As you say in the below message, it's certainly been my experience
that I'm unable to recharge the battery from the USB port if it's
gone completely flat. I'm just wondering, is this clearly documented
in the manual, and did I just miss it? I wish I'd known this
earlier, as at first I wasted quite a bit of time trying to recharge
using USB, wondering why none of the resets would work, etc, before
finally discovering that the wall adapter would resolve the issue.
I'm not saying that this is a problem, I just think it would be good
if people were made aware of it.
Thanks,
Nicky

Hello. This is correct. However if the BookSense is completely
discharged, the BookSense will not have enough of a charge from the
usb port to power on. So you will need the AC adapter to get it
going.
Many thanks.

Hi Alex,
1) to put the switch right, push the switch towards the prongs of
the adapter. If you have a mini usb cable, you can plug the unit
in to the computer and this will charge it as well.

Hi all I do not own a Book Sense, but my sister does, and, being
the family's pet computer geek, it is on me to train her on it (a
position with which I am excited as it gives me the excuse to
play with the device so I can get used to it). A couple
questions, one urgent: 1. There is a switch on the back of the AC
adapter. Like an idiot I decided to push it down, and now it will
not go back up. What is this switch, and will I fry the Sense if
I plug it in with this switch down? I am in the United States.
2. The manual says the Sense can be used with AC power. Does this
not work for the initial charge? The machine powered up when we
put in the battery, but then it turned itself off and now,
powered or not (until I hit that switch - it has not been plugged
in since then) it refuses to turn on. Reset it, or is this normal
for the first charge?
Thanks for any help, and I really hope I did not damage the
adapter by throwing that stupid switch!!
