I'm looking for a good statement on this, but from what I can tell, there is no limit on the number of entries you can have in a allocation table in FAT32, which is what I assume most flash cards will be using. If anyone knows different, I'm kind of curious. I'm sure there's a performance impact at some point, but I think this is a limit that most people won't hit on their flash cards. If you're worried about it, I suppose you could clean out the folder whenever it gets up to a few thousand entries. I'll keep looking, and if I find anything definitive, I'll repost.

It is not so much the disk space it is the file allocation table that I am concerned
about. Each file regardless of size requires a pointer of some type whether or not the
underlying OS is Linux or Windows. The more entries in the table and the more pointers
might result in some interesting behaviour way down the road when hundreds of files end
up in these "system" folders.

Subject: Re: [GW-Booksense] BookSense Mark Folder

You can clean it as you wish. Considering these files don't take up much
room, it's doubtful they will be the downfall of your card getting
completely full. I've considered starting an area where people can
submit mark files for NLS books with little or no mark up. That way
people can have quick access to the chapters of specific books. However
I don't know if there are any legalities to contend with. So I have not
pursued it further than the idea.

Many thanks.

Greetings

I suspect the "mark" folders is where the BookSense keeps the information,
specifically location, for each folder in that group. Does this folder get cleaned up
automagically or is this something we need to maintain ourselves?
