At
http://ask-leo.com/is_there_a_limit_to_what_a_single_folder_or_directory_can
_hold.html, I found the following limits for the FAT32 file system:

• Maximum disk size: 2 terabytes
• Maximum file size: 4 gigabytes
• Maximum number of files on disk: 268,435,437
• Maximum number of files in a single folder: 65,534

It is not so much the disk space it is the file allocation table that I am
concerned about. Each file regardless of size requires a pointer of some
type whether or not the underlying OS is Linux or Windows. The more entries
in the table and the more pointers might result in some interesting
behaviour way down the road when hundreds of files end up in these "system"
folders.

You can clean it as you wish. Considering these files don't take up much
room, it's doubtful they will be the downfall of your card getting
completely full. I've considered starting an area where people can
submit mark files for NLS books with little or no mark up. That way
people can have quick access to the chapters of specific books. However
I don't know if there are any legalities to contend with. So I have not
pursued it further than the idea.

Many thanks.

cleaned up automagically or is this something we need to maintain ourselves?
