I have been typing since the fifth grade and brailling since the first grade
so I feel more comfortable using a keyboard. I don't like SmartPhones. I had
one for a while, and I knew cell phones wouldn't replace the need for a
notetaker because (1) their battery life is poor (2) their keyboards are
awful to use (3) I got tired of reinstalling MobileSpeak SmartPhone every
time the battery went too low or I need to replace the phone. And I could
never get my braille display to work with it.
If the speech in the Apple products sounds as lousy as the Victor Reader
Stream, then I wouldn't buy one for that reason alone!
Yes, blindness notetakers are expensive and I think braille devices should
be subsidized to make them affordable for everyone or else people should be
able to receive braille devices on loan in the same way the NLS players are
loaned. Now, isn't that a nice daydream!
