Jamie You truly put things in their proper perspective. JFW scripting has seemingly been around forever; and it continues to be an ongoing effort. So, it may well take a year or 2 or 3 (and perhaps a version above 7.0) to bring the true potential to where ultimately users (and Gwmicro) want it to be. The value of scripting will not be in some of the glitsy things now on Script Central though they demonstrate just how innovative things can be. The power will show itself in things and programs seemingly coming to life that previously j;ust didn't. It won't be in a weather script, GWMicro changing the way time tets spoken, or whether a chorus of beeps rises or falls (and at what pace) as a download proceeds. Rather, it will be in some accounting or tax program becoming 2nd-nature to use, a podcatcher allowing one to check and add subscriptions, a Bible program opening up new study and comparison opportunities, or some difficult to use web page no longer being that. And, as my sighted wife reminds me, she too has problems with certain programs, web sites and all the rest. What scripting will do is bring about less of a difference for the blind user and the sighted user, but cannot and will not eliminate all issues.
Let's see what scripters can do once the initial hoopla and oohs and ahs have subsided and folks get back down to using WE as a pc tool first and foremost. Let's see what programs can be written for; and which still remain untouchable. Let's see what opportunities scripting provides both for volunteer and paid scripters and what problems will crop up. And I also see, particularly for scripting efforts that may prove complex and time demanding, an opportunity for skilled individuals to earn some extra cash. Just as folks pay for software, they may have to accept the notion that some scripts will come with a $ attached. And some have also said, prudence in choosing what scripts one loads onto their pc may be necessary as not so scrupulous individuals can just easily create scripts that do destructigve things; and yes, they can also create (unintentionally) scripts that just fail to deliver either due to imcompetence, incompleteness or the uniqueness of a pc setup that just won't respond correctly. Hence, no your scripter and where you get it. This may be just as important as the script's title, claims, and so forth. Having said all this: this appears to be the dawning of a great new day for the power of WE. If you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only.
