Currently you would need to write a script to accomplish this, but
you should be able to do it. You'd have to watch focuses and then
overwrite what is read for everything and give your own order.

This has always been the case. The data of the button has always
been read by the field data part of WE not the field name. I don't
understand how this is an issue for you. Can you explain further?
