Hi,

I thought this was a stand alone product that had no software to install?

Yes, but there is another setting for magicjack which controls headset and
phone volume.

You can change the volume by going into the computer volume control.

I wish that it could go higher than it does. But, it's loud enough.

I think it works fine. I haven't been able to change the volume but other
than that it works great. YOu can't change the volume on the phone by pc
anyway normally so this is not a big deal to me. For $20 a year for long
distance to the u.s. and canada it is great.
