Reg,
I've not experienced stuck chat messages, either with or without
Window-Eyes. I'll investigate the other problem you mentioned.

Thanks Aaron. Yes I'm still getting this strange thing where the
desktop and system tray lists stop reading properly after I exit Skype.
And another thing (yawn), do you or does anyone else find that chat
messages sometimes get stuck in the edit window? I have to close the
chat window and restart it to get out of that reliably. The sighted
person with whom I was chatting says that this never happens to her, so
it's me or the screen reader. All legal and printable suggestions
welcome as usual.

No I didn't. I thought they should be on, so I heard "on" rather than
"off".
You can't be blamed too much for this. After all, how many times are you
told to turn off accessibility features?
The problem is with Skype. When the accessibility features are enabled,
the MSAA information they send through is incomplete, and difficult to
work with. Turning it off, however, yields rich MSAA information that is
easy to work with. Go figure.
I'll do some investigating to see if I can account for both situations.
