That's cool.
I've got an older version around here somewhere, maybe I'll go check
out the latest offering.

Chris,
registry cleanup is merely a component of c cleaner, just like
removing programs cleanly. The taskf or which the utility is best
known is removing temp files and such things.
The program is very well designed in many respects, including the interface.
I am fully aware of the varying levels of technical knowledge on
this list and always make sure that my ideas/solutions do not
involve the use of software or execution of commands that might in
any way cause disruption to the general function of Windows or
indeed window-eyes. Recommending ccleaner was no deviation from
this principle. I've been using the software for over two years and
so far have not experienced any problems. The newer versions of the
program include a registry cleanup feature which is independent of
the other features. However, as I said before, the program is pretty
high level and doesn't allow you to mock around freely in the registry.

And that's why i said that.
It didn't make my machine not boot, but some programs I cleaned up
after took some other registry keys and cause some dependancies to be broken.
That's just the nature of windows.
Nothing is bullet proof.
So I wasn't trying to scare anyone, just saying to exercise caution
when doing anything with the registry, which any computer user
should learn from day one.
That's like the akiles heel in windows.
I am glad it's worked well for you, and it is a fine piece of software.

Chris,
please have a look at the utility before making statements about
the risks. As it happens there are none! C cleaner is a very high
level software tool for cleaning up your system and I have been
using it successfully for months. There's no scope for messing
with registry integrity.
Surely, I wouldn't be so irresponsible as to recommend a program
which could get beginners in trouble.

I thought ccleaner was a registry cleaner, not an add/remove utility.
You want to be very careful with those, a beginner could get in
trouble messing with the registry.
There are a lot of dependancies in there, and removing one wrong
key could render your system unbootable.
So unless your good at getting out of messes be carefull
with those kinds of things.

Sam,
It is a real script. It really demonstrates how to really do
something, and it really does exactly what it really claims to do. Really.
"The Custom Add/Remove script lists all installed applications,
much like the default Add/Remove programs control panel."
And that's it. If someone wants more from it, then more will
have to go into developing the script further. If that
development is going to be up to me, I don't know when I'll
have the opportunity to work on it. Other scripts and projects
have priority over this one.
Thanks for your feedback.

What other scripts are not for real?
Thanks

Subject: Re: Add remove script problem
The Add/Remove script was really just a proof of concept, so
there may be issues. All it does is read in the uninstall
keys in the registry, and then populates a list box with the
results. There are no uninstall checks or anything like that
to verify that an application can be uninstalled. It just
calls the string in the uninstall key to begin the
installation. As this is a GW Micro script, it is free to
modify and re-distribute, so if someone wants to beef it up,
they're welcome to it.

Hello to the list,
I have the add remove script installed and when I activate
the script with alt control a the list box comes up
fine. The problem comes in when I try to remove a
program. I get error messages that the program cannot be
removed or that windows can't find the file. Is this
supposed to work when you use this script? When I go to add
remove programs in control panel it works just fine. If
this is an issue with the script I hope it can be resolved
as it is an easy way to remove programs.
