ok! A happy ending. As a last resort before going back to an old drive image, I followed the previously outlined steps adding Gene's suggestions. Rather than installing from the WE7.0 disk, I installed from the older 5.5 for which I have all subsequent updates saved on an external drive. This version installed like a champ. Subsequently, I installed the first update to 6.0 which also works nicely along with my old 6.0 setfiles.
