Ok, I understand your view.
I remember that Jaws went for solving things with there own custom ways.
WE wanted to use msaa to act as the new way per ms to solve these speech
issues.
I guest the debate is what is a standard way?
Mozilla is an open source cross platform program.
They can't use ms windows controls ... so what is the standard?
So Mozilla uses msaa ... we then say please use the standards ... what would
that be?

Not really no. the fact is a few years ago we wanted people to use
standard
approaches. We still want them to use a standard approach when ever
possible msaa was a means and still is of getting the information when
they
cannot or do not use a standard approach. Really nothing has changed.

Hi Jim,
I agree with you.
I don't think Doug should spend extra time if only a few programs use this
method.
I think they need to allocate there time that will serve the customers in
the best way they see fit.
I agree with the money making idea as well that's what will keep them
alive.
What started this thing is I mentioned that it was interesting that
mozilla
supports this method and a few short years ago we would have been praising
them for this and now we wish they had a different way of doing it witch
relies less on msaa.
Do you find that interesting?
I didn't mean to cause a problem or blame any one or suggest that any one
was not doing as they should or think best.
Thanks
Sam

Hi I think the issue here is progress bars in msaa is rather
unusual so supporting this would only add support for a few programs.
So
using standard progress bars just made more sence. The question is
should
we work on what most programs use and support or should we work on what a
few programs need. Also if Doug takes time out to work on progress bars
for
Msaa then he is taking time away from updating brows mode UIA support
making
scripts feel less like scripts and more like a part of the program itself
etc. in other words things we might see in the next version of
window-eyes.
Things that will make gw micro money and allow them to provide better
software. As it was said earlier an allocation of resources. Now all
that
being said gw micro now has a full time scripter on staff who may find
time
to update this script and others.

Hi Jim,
I agree that's a good question.
But, the reason I found it interesting is becuase mozilla is using msaa
witch a few years ago we would have said fantastic ... they are using a
method that we have access to.

A better question is why isn't Mozilla using a standard progress bar?

Hello Sam. Keep in mind that our scripts are open source, so if you
can't wait for one of us to fix it...........Well, you have access to
the source.

Hi Aaron,
I understand the difference between msaa support in a script v support

In other words you are saying ... hey we supports msaa and even does in

but, the author of the script ... hasn't added it yet because it's not
popular enough.
You refer to the scripts author?

I understand the popular demand issue but, I am just saying it's
interesting that msaa was going to be the best way for speech in aps.
Now it's not even added because of lack of popular demand.
I am just saying interesting.
Thanks

I think you're confusing support for MSAA in Window-Eyes, and support
for a specific kind of progress bar in this particular script. If it
weren't for Window-Eyes' robust support for MSAA, scripting the
progress bar wouldn't even be possible.
It's simply a matter of resources and popular demand for the script
author.

Currently this script only pays attention to Win32 progress bars not
ones from MSAA. We hope to enhance it to do so at some point in the
future.

First of all I appreciate the hard work people who write scripts
do to
provide so many useful scripts for people like me who don't have
the
slightest clue how to write scripts or any other type of program.
However I am very disappointed with the new sounds in the latest
version
of the Progress Indicator script. I find the new sounds very harsh
and
bordering on being annoying. However I appreciate other people
prefer
these sounds and I understand why GW Micro feel the new sounds are
better for people using laptops etc.
I have a suggestion that could possibly please everyone. Why not
create
another script with the original sounds and call it something like
Progress Indicator Classic or similar and make it identical to the
new
Progress Indicator script except for the sounds. Then you could
include
the edition of the script with the new sounds as the default
script
with
Window-eyes and also on Script Central and as well make another
edition
of the script available on Script Central with the sounds that wer
used
previously with this script.
