That number is the number of missed events.

A few interesting skype issues. When i am in skype, this number seems to

changing, and going up. When i do control shift T it says skype 42 and

my skype name.
Supposedly a friend sent me a request to add me. I'm having truble
finding
it. Also trying to figure out where to find chats as well as file
transfir
requests.
