Hey, that's cool, but why vista over xp?
People are panicking because ms is going to cut off support for
service pack 2 soon, but that's no big deal.
That just means all the patching is done and there's nothing left to
do on xp to make money.
I rather imagine that the updates up to that point will still be
around in different places,
and service pack 3 will be around another 4 years, and unless 64 bit
really takes off, it wouldn't supprise me if ms pushed back service
pack 3 another few years.
Unless the drivers really catch up and things get really good with w7.
Xp is still by a long shot the most widely used and popular os on the
planet for good reason,
it works with everything with no compatibility problems and all the
hardware works on it.
Ms tried to ram vista down everybody's throat and it didn't work,
there was such a back lash.
So I'm curious, why vista 32 and not xp because lots of stuff got
orphaned with vista.
It's like a double whammie,
we got hit twice, but at least with 64 bit,
we get the promise of way more ram and processing power,
well,
I guess vista does support multi-processors a little bit better, but
still only 4 gigs so how much can that really mean?
I'm just curious to why you went with vista?

Chris,
I agree with pretty much everything you said; however, something being the
future doesn't mean it's the best choice right now.
I'm using 32-bit vista, and really enjoy vista much more than xp for daily
use, and the 32 bit os helps keep me away from the compatibility problems.
So, the point I wanted to make is that the future might be a way off yet.

That's why I said xp for the other end.
There's not a lot of benefit going from one 32 bit os to another.
Xp is mature and stable, and works with everything.
32 bit w7
breaks some stuff too, but still has the limitations of a 32 bit os.
So, unless for some reason you have to deal with it, your better off either
doing xp or taking the 64 bit plunge.
Case in point, I could never load huge soundfonts we're talking 1.5 gigs in
size on a 32 bit os in sonar.
Well, my new i7 has 6 gigs of fast memory and yesterday for grins I created
a 1.5 gig piano with extreme sample converter and loader her right up in 64
bit sonar.
in sfz.
If your thinking small stuff like netbooks,
w7 even 32 bit still takes more hit on your hardware than xp did, they made
it run better than that piece of junk vista hog, but still, for small stuff,
and for tried and true and good driver support you can't beat xp.
And w7 64 bit will get better and better
64 bit is the future.
