Steve and Pat, I was going to deal with this completely off list, but another short message seems necessary here to save confusion.
People have had some trouble with NFBTRANS under Windows 7, requiring that it be run in XP Compatibility mode. This is not a problem in and of itself, but there have then been difficulties in getting it to communicate directly with braille printers. The WINTRANS front-end appears to run under Windows 7 all right but it cannot get around the fact that it must call NFBTRANS using Compatibility mode. Several people have just started looking into this, with one solution being to compile NFBTRANS as a 32-bit console application, but we have not succeeded there yet. It appears that which is said to be simple isn't. I am guessing that at least some of these limitations also apply to TurboBraille unless it has been updated recently. It was also an old DOS application written in C. At this point, I am not running Windows 7 yet so I don't know if there are some obvious solutions, but it sounds as though you must have gotten around the above obstacles. One can, of course, use NFBTRANS under compatibility mode and create a BRF file instead of printing, and then send the BRF file to the printer in some other way. We should take this off the list, but I hate to see people encounter problems that have already been encountered.
