The Kenwood 590 is considered to be a mid-range rig. It goes for around
$1800 as I recall, which is less than half of what the Icom 7600, 7700, and
7800 begin at. The 590 is also way less expensive than the upper-end Yaesu
transceivers, such as the 5000 and 9000 series. Rumor has it that Kenwood
will announce a new high-end rig at Dayton, which many hams are very anxious
to see and get their hands on. Our beloved hobby has gotten very expensive
with all of the microprocessor controls and other wizardry that
all of this equipment is made of. On the other hand, you can now sit in
your tiny apartment in downtown L.A. and operate your top-of-the-line HF
station located on the top of a peak in the Alps from your notebook.

How about the Kenwood TS590? Is that not considered a high end rig?
For it's price I'd think it is, but am curious as to what others think.
