`Hi chip,
I agree that paying for software yearly would be fantastic.
Then we wouldn't need to worry about SMA or upgrades etc.
The software company could release more often bug fixes and add features as
they can.
We would pay hmhm $100/yr/copy ... that's less than $10/mo.
Then they would have money to develop and we would always have the latest
version.
GW ... is this something that would interest you guys as well?
Thanks,
Sam

I like new features as much as anyone, but I'd pay just for bug fixes.
we've had them free for two years, along with new features every time.
I almost think a better model for software support is simply to pay by the
year. that way, we and the companies don't have to go through this each
and
every release.

Subject: Article: 13 Reasons why Software is not Free
Hi all,
In relation to the recent discussion on this list about the upgrade to WE
7.5 being a paid upgrade I thought people might like to read this article
that I thought makes some wise observations about why all software should
not be free. The article is at
http://goo.gl/053qL
I'm happy for WE 7.5 to be a paid upgrade given the new features that are
included in this version and I'd also be happy if WE 8 is a paid upgrade
too
whenever that is released. Another reason why I'm happy to pay for
software
is because I believe in some cases the old saying "you get what you pay
for"
definitely applies to software.
Having said that I do use free and open source software as well. I think
there's a place for both free software and software that you have to pay
for.
