Did you try turning on browse mode and see if it will read the message?
From time to time, this is what I have to do.

Subject: Stil having a problem with WLM 2011
Recently I installed the Window-Eyes 7.5 upgrade on a Windows 7, 64 bit
Laptop running I E 8. I subsequently upgraded Windows Live Mail from WLM
2009 to W L M 2011, and I am currently unable to read the text of incoming
messages with the cursor keys. I have the preview pain turned off and the
screen is maximized. The current file association with WLM is Msmail.set.
Everything reads like it should in WLM until I attempt to open a message. I
can't get the message window to read on its own. I can arrow up and down to
read the list of messages but when I open a message with the Enter Key the
only way that I can read the text of the message is to read the
User window with ctrl-shft-W or to use the Mouse keys. If I attempt to turn
Browse Mode on with ctrl-shft-A I hear, Brows Mode not available. Sometimes
when I open a message, the subject of the message is re read, but W-E always
announces that I am in a Custom Control. I've tried changing several
settings in the control panel with out success. What did I mess up and how
do I fix it?
Your thoughts and ideas will be appreciated.
