Hey Guys,
Note that the new interface is not menu driven. It is primarily a tree-view.
So you navigate up and down and expand and collapse things. You can use
arrow keys to move up and down, but you can also hit the first letter of the
node you want, e.g. from the root level, S=Screen, H=Hotkeys, V=Verbosity,
etc. And this also works after expanding or collapsing them with right and
left arrows respectively. Only after you get to the last node is when you
then have to Tab up and down through options. And F6 will jump you
back-and--forth from the options list to the tree. So let's say you open the
control panel and you're on the root node of the tree, right at the top, on
screen. If you want to change your synthesizer, D, Devices, right arrow to
open, S, Synthesizers, then Tab to the list. And again, remember the
shortcut keys. If you're running DecTalk and want SAPI, just hit S and
you'll land there. And you can just hit Control-S to save any changes you've
made.
The addition of Global/Program scope toggling is a very powerful feature
once you understand it. Changing any parameter that is set to global changes
it for all of your set files within which it is set to global. conversely,
setting a parameter to program allows you to change it only for the current
program, provided you have a set file associated with that program. If not,
and you wish to make changes to the current program, from the root node of
the tree just press A to land on Association, right arrow to open it, and C
for current association. Then Tab once to land in the set file edit box. If
you have no set file associated you should see Default.set in that edit box.
Just Enter the name of the set file you wish to create and associate, tab,
select by title or class, then tab to the associate and save button and
press enter. Now you have a new set file created and associated to the
currently active program. Make all the program specific changes you want,
making sure to set their scope to program, and save the set file.
I initially resisted this new interface as well. But I now see, at least for
me, it is much much quicker and easier to make changes.
Hth,
Tom

Subject: a couple of comments on windoweyes 7.5
I've been a long-time 'windoweyes user
[.db] me too. I switched from JFW to WE in 2002.
and, with a couple of exceptions, love the product -- I think it's in most
ways much better than the competition.
I have a couple of comments on 7.5. these are based on limited use and
some
attempts to find information in the manual; I haven't gone through the
entire manual or tutorial yet.
1. I do like the fact that one can set all voice and other parameters
from one menu rather than having to go in and out of menus each time you
change a parameter. Nice innovation, Gw Micro!
[.db] I agree
2. However, I do not like the new interface. first, windoweyes is far
too verbose when alt-tabbing to it from other programs. I don't want or
need
to hear menu choices, and I find it annoying that I end up on the last
menu
choice I made, whether I'm in minimize or in some other part of the
Interface. [.db] the day will come, when you are fine tuning a setting,
you
will find this useful.
If there's a way to just make windoweyes say "windoweyes" when alt-tabbing
to it, or just the associated setfile, as it did before, I'd like to here
it. I think this needs to be improved for the next release.
3. I find the new interface hard to navigate; some of the categories
aren't
obvious. Part of this is my unfamiliarity with the new interface. for me,
the new interface isn't better, on the whole; it's just different,
requiring
a learning curve that, at my advanding age (smile) I'm less and less
willing
to engage in. [.db] I agree. I'm long past the desire to learn new
tricks
and just want to do what I do with minimal effort.
4. I haven't figured out how to actually change voices.
[.db] Go down that first list till you hear devices. Hit right arrow to
open the group and down to synthesizers then tab a couple times till you
land on the list of voices for your synthesizer of choice. .
I can find voice rotor, and how to add or delete a voice, but I haven't
found where to actually switch voices. It was not obvious from where I
looked in the manual.
5. I would never have thought to look for the Voice rotor in the Apps
menu. I think this menu needs to be renamed, or another menu needs to be
created. I found voice rotor only by stumbling across it, so to speak.
[.db] Well, the voice rotor is a script, or app as they like to call them
now, and not actually part of the program. And it is a very useful script
too.
I'm finding the menus less intuitive.
6. As I'm tabbing through the menus, I keep hearing "xxxx toggle scope,
button", then another tab brings me to where I can set or change the
parameter. Again, this is probably due to my lack of familiarity and not
fully reading the manual, but I don't' understand the purpose of the
"scope
toggle buttons" . I'm finding it confusing and a pain to tab through to
get
to the actual parameter I want to change.
there may be a quite logical reason for this added thing; I just haven't
found it.
[.db] You will, as I did just the other day. I will dig up the notes on
it,
most excellent detail provided by Jeff wyse as I recall. When I do, I
will
send it you off list if someone doesn't do it sooner.
I hope Gw Micro will be working with Mozilla to come out with an update
which fixes Firefox 4's problems.
Thanks for all of your hard work, Gw Micro;p I hope these comments are
helpful.
