I did uninstall all apps and then run a registry scan just to be sure
everything that was supposed to be removed was, in fact, removed, then I
restarted my system. But, unfortunately, the problem still persists. The
thing that boggles my mind is that I can select sections of a file name to
delete in OE, but not in Windows explorer. Just seems odd to me. I'll check
the sys tray to see if there is something waiting for me down there.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Have you tried making sure there are no other programs open and turning off
all apps? Sometimes, I find that a particular program or app might temporarily
conflict with some task I wish to do. In my case, the task manager is very
prone to blocking speech in edit boxes. Also, if you happen to have updates
waiting to be installed, this can cause unusual behavior. Aparently, there are
some type of pop-up windows that take away part of the screen from Window-Eyes.

But, I'd like to hear what I am deleting. For some reason, my copy of WE

allowed me to hear the selected text. Just wondering if anyone has an
explaination of why my reinstalltion does not allow me to do this. It's like
if I installed windows xp, and the run dialog box diddn't work. Yes, I could
get to my drives and folders using My computer, but Windows xp isn't supposed
to work that way.

then just delete the carachters that you don't want in the file name.

What happens if I wish to keep most of the file name. Before I
reinstalled WE 7.2, WE would epeak the selected text to me.

What you do is press f2 then delete the file name then put in the
name you want then press enter.

Subject: modifying file names in Windows explorer
Hello,
I am running WE 7.2 on a winxp machine. When I get emails I
wish to save, I hit the menu, select save, and I can then save the email to my
hard disk. Some of the emails are from recipe listservs, so they have the
listserv's name at the beginning of the file name. If I am still in OE, I can
select the portion of the filename using the control shift right arrow key
combo and WE speaks what is being selected. But if I forget to do this, and
save the file to my hard disk, and later open window explorer, and hit the F2
key to rename the file, and do the same key combo, WE does not read /speak the
portion being selected. I had to reinstall WE 7.2 a week ago because I removed
an app and WE started throwing errors at me. I tried to submit the error to
GWmicro, but that froze my computer solid.
My question, after all this explaination is this, how can I get
WE to speak the selected text in Windows explorer when I am selecting text to
delete in a file name?
Not sure if I am missing a setting in WE, or if I have an APP that
is messing up the process.
Thanks for any help.
