Well, Windows 8 is just around the corner.

I had the same problem with my new laptop and windows 7-HP. After all the updates windows downloaded and installed, it took for ever for window-eyes to come up talking. I was asked if I have any of the following programs pre installed. One of which was Norton and was told to uninstall it. Nothing in windows 7 is where I expect it to be. It's like Microsoft said hey, let's do something new. Everything will be there but let's give it another name and call the same old things new names and move them all around. That'll give them something new to do. So I reinstalled Window-Eyes. Again nothing happened. There is this message that pops up asking if you want to let window-eyes make changes to your system. Now, with out sighted help at hand being my sighted wife there is no way I would have known that. Then they came out with 4.0 and I decided to install that first before trying to find the uninstall for Norton what ever anti everything extra super-dooper or what ever. When the install was complete and the message that says your copy of window-eyes is complete but before you can use your new copy etc, you have to restart your computer etc. Ok, here goes nothing. I hit enter and the laptop reboots. To my amazement, window-eyes 5.7.4.0 actually came up talking at the login screen. I know there is a way you can remove that from asking you to login if your the only person using the computer but I haven't found it yet either on my XP netbook or my new laptop so my friend, this is just to say I experienced the same thing and I can't say as how I think windows 7 HP is better then XP home but the experiment goes on. PS: I'm writing this on my netbook with XP home because I can't get the outgoing server set right for my EarthLink account. They have this utility for XP that all you need to do is to type in your email address and pass word and it asks you if you want to setup outlook or outlook express but they don't have one for windows 7 HP etc and I've yet to find one but it's hard to find something when you have no clue as to what it's name might be. I wonder why I thought I needed a new full size laptop..... Regards, Alan Teenagers; Tired of being harassed by your parents? Act now!!!!! Move out. Get a job. This past weekend I set up my new Windows 7 PC. After completing the out of the box set up, I inserted the WE 7.5.3 CD. After the temp copy of WE loaded, I got a message that said that Window Eyes was unable to communicate with the Window Eyes display driver, and it told me to go into Device manager and see if the driver was installed and enabled. I did, and it was. But when trying the install again, I got the same message. I went in and uninstalled the driver, and tried the install again, and got the same message. My wife suggested that we proceed with the install anyway, which we had to do without speech. At the end of the install, WE began talking, and the installation was apparently successful. I wanted to relate this story so that others would know what to do if this happens. Unfortunately, you will not have speech for the install, and will need sighted assistance.
