Hi Shannon,
I'm glad it did the trick for you. And Marten has given you the answer I would have. And like him, my mouse route command works too. But Control-Shift-S is quicker anyway. The preview pane is a visual thing so the sighted user can see little snapshots of the files.

Good luck,
Tom

Hi Shannon,

While in explorer, you can also press ctrl-shift-s to hear the current
line and ctrl-shift-s a second time to let it be spelled.

You can also press ctrl-5 to read the current selected item and a second
time to spel.

But: when I press the pointer routed to cursor hotkey: ins-plus, the
mouse is placed on the actual item in explorer in windows7.
With ins-5 I can hear the item.

Tom,

I did as you suggested and changed my curser key delay for all programs even
though you said to set it to program specific. I changed the value to 4 and it
might have done the trick for the Explorer problem and so far so good in the
outlook inbox list too.
I did the step below and turned off the preview setting like you said. I have
no idea what it was so I don't think I'll miss it in the slightest.

I do have another question regarding the explorer window. Now that I believe I
can trust to hear what WE is telling me is the file name some times the names
are not clear. We have some people who name files funny things. How do I route
the mouse to that selection to read letter by letter that file name? I press
the route mouse hot key and it says mouse routed but it seems to be on the left
side in the tree view part of the window and not in the file list with the
highlighted file name.
I know I could use the context key and use the rename option to read letter by
letter but that seems a bit over the top. My mouse should be able to do this
for me?

Thanks for the suggestions. So far so good.
I give that suggestion a two thumbs up so far!

Shannon

I haven't had any problems, Manny, other than the Thunderbird
composition window getting scrambled. But that tends to be if I'm either
writing a long message or doing a lot of editing.
The only way to clean it up I've found is to add a second action to the
program scope Control-Home cursor key in Thunderbird_write.set. I add,
Execute hot key, Redraw, and then put a delay of 10 on that key. Then
when I Control-Home it redraws the screen and reads the line. I then
just have to go back down through the message.

I haven't had the problem in Explorer. So I just suggested a cursor
delay to see if it would work.
One thing I do recommend in Explorer is to turn off Show preview handles
in the preview pane. You can do this from within Explorer or the Folder
options in the Windows control panel.
Tools.
Advanced.
Uncheck Show preview handles in preview pane.

Hth,
Tom

Hi Tom,

did you have this problem and fixed it by doing what you suggested.

why if everything is working well why does WE8 get confused
and not read correctly after a while of tabbing around different programs?
3.
while writing this email, I had to cut and paste to wordpad, because WE8
kept repeating the same line twice instead of the next line.
In thunderbird WE8 read the 2 lines as:
why if everything is working well why does WE8 get confused
why if everything is working well why does WE8 get confused
while in wordpad we8 read it correctly as:
why if everything is working well why does WE8 get confused
and not read correctly after a while of tabbing around different programs?
