The only thing I do not understand, in the middle of it all, is what benefit this kind of competition will have at all. GW is quite eager at blocking any infringement on their copyright, meaning that you do not get a serial number for a licensed version, without them knowing who you are, at least not from the dealer I have been using. So the registration should have been there already shouldn't it? Just wondering.

Secondly, if they do not need the customer info for letting out the software, like it could seem from the contest, I do see little benefit for them to request us to register. If they havent' needed our info up till now, what in the world will make them need it all that sudden.

Thirdly, this kind of "we will give you a gift card in this or that netshop, only please you give us all your info", well it is tiring me out. All kinds of stores and selling people, businesses, promotional or cherity organizations, they all call for our information. My best advice, even if this comes from a reputable source like GW, is to stay as far away from that kind of stuff. I really feel it does make a drop on GW's reputation, when they have to perform this kind of competiting-steps, to get in touch with their customers. Still, I do know, this is a big business idea in certain parts of the world. It just has never been locally, and not to me at all. If they want to give out a gift card, wonderful, and please do so. But making things a matter of collecting information, is not a great idea. And, I do understand those who feel it is strange to name the one who downloaded the free version of WE yesterday, a loyal customer, and letting him enter the contest, due to him living in the States. At the same time, people who live outside the States, but who have been paying their expensive updates for two decades, are not "a loyal customer".

After all, how loyal would you name a person that download the screen reader right now, enter the contest, wins the gift card, and then deletes the screen reader from his computer - not to ever touch it again? He hardly have to turn it on at all, and he definitely do not have to even be a blind or disabled person. I find the term "a loyal customer like you" rather strange in this light. So GW, first you decide to follow this "big business" lane, please make sure your wording would make more sense. You then would avoid hurting any user's fellings, and you likely also would find more accept among the users who live outside the limited area. Even another suggestion, would have been to make sure of a global arrangement, before you go out publicly declaring the chance of 50 dollars.

I could agree, that to those who live outside the States, this gives a feeling of being secondary. No matter how much GW are working on a solution for those as well, no matter how many times they assures us that other regions are just as important - if they keep proving it all to the extent of primarily prioritized, and secondary customers, I am afraid they will only hurt their own market. This all is a matter of making a name for themselves, but I am afraid they are cutting the very branch where they have decided to nest. Amazon, for instance, are not even delivering products to all countries, so even if they opened up for international users to enter, the gift card may be useless. If you want to give out moeny, let us have the pure money, not any restricted things. And, make sure that all, and I really think all, your customers being treated equally. How about, first you want to treat them differently, if you for once tried to make a gift or any other such thing, only available to your International customers. Try to see what a storm you would rise, if you told all your US customers, that they were not allowed to enter the contest, and that you may have something come up for them "sometime in the coming future". Never seen that way of approach, so could be interesting to see what the effect would be. :) GW, there you have your next business promotional idea, and you take it all for free. Smile.

No, I don't mean to be sacastic or anything at all. Like I said, I won't be giving out info, just to enter a contest, so their promotional stuff won't bite on me anyway. I just mean to say, I do understand why International customers react on this kind of promotional stuff, and I do think the term "loyal customer" is rather misplaced.

Hello,

I understand your concerns. We will be launching a similar contest for our
international customers in the very near future.

Thank you for your understanding.

All the Best,

Hi Listers,
I take exception to the below message for the following reasons.

The message begins:
At Ai Squared, it's our pleasure to extend rewards to loyal customers
like you.

But then goes on to say:
(Note: You must reside in the United States).
Well, I don't reside in the US but have had a retail version of WEa for around
20 years and currently have some unused SMA's also. I have no idea how much
has been spent on updates, SMA's and voices over the time but no doubt, a
considerable amount.

but, because I don't live in the US, I am not eligible to enter the
competition which deals with a Company that sells on the net anyway.

What percentage of GW Micro's income has been obtained from overseas buyers
over the years is impossible for me to know. But, no doubt there are more
blind people living in the rest of the World than currently live in the US..

However, the real annoyance comes from the fact that someone who has recently
downloaded a free copy of WE under the Microsoft Office arrangement and lives
in the US is eligible to enter. Unlike those of us who live elsewhere in the
World and have contributed much to GW Micro's income over the years.

It is realised that the competition prize is not all that generous but to me,
it is the principle of it.

What do other overseas retail owners of WE think or am I just being too
sensitive?
Neville.
