Martha,

I do not consider myself a network expert, but I have done some terminal 
emulation and also use Cisco AnyConnect.  
I don't know of anything obvious that should cause the problems you are 
describing strictly because of using VPN, 
especially if you are using the same version of your terminal emulator.  What I 
would probably check, though, is 
whether the servers you contact are looking at your session because it comes 
through VPN.  For example, possibly 
the server is defaulting to a different terminal type for remote connections.  
There might also be a change to the 
default cursor blink rate or cursor type.  These are usually set within your 
terminal emulator, but it is worth 
making sure that somehow the settings are not being changed.

I hope you can get something figured out.
