I'm confused as to why it would be necessary to verify that there are no
files in the folder by using the mouse.  If control shift s says nothing,
then there is no file in the folder.  You can also use control numpad 5 to
speak the file name and a right arrow will give the date of the file, if
there is one in the folder.

will be read.
