There is one thing, that keeps puzzling me a bit. I do see times when
the F8 method could be useful, particularly in selecting big blocks of
text. And I do know there is big differences between a browser window
and say a text editor window.
Still, since GW wanted to implement a new feature, why did they create
all that confusion? Why not let F8 be a global feature. Later, when they
are going to re-implement the Shift-arrows in browser windows, everyone
then could decide which method they want to use. I use the Shift-arrows,
you use the F8 method - but we could stick to either one or the other,
no matter what window we are in.
To me, it seems very little productive to have to remember when I am to
use one selection method, and when I have to do it the other way. And I
guess, the implementing of new features would have been more smooth, had
it been more consequent across the whole system. At least, without
having touched the Beta, this is my feelings about the whole issue. I
have no trouble in accepting new features, specially when I can choose
if I want to do things one way or not. But I hate when things have to be
done in ten different ways, depending on what environment you are
currently working.
After all, if I happened to operate several pieces of software
simultaneously - a scenario that would most likely apply to most
students and emplyees - I for one, would get rather frustrated. In the
one second, I have to use F8 because I am in Internet Explorer. I
Alt-tab to my text editor and have to use Shift-arrows. Again I Alt-Tab
to my mail client, and depending on what manufacturer made that one,
will have to remember which selection method should be used? Name that
simpler for my daily activity, and name it a leap forward. :)
Sure, I may have misunderstood the whole issue, and would gladly accept
any corrections and advice here. At least, that would prepare me for the
day when GW decides it is time to let me have a chance to benefit from
the new version, even if I am not using an English WE.

Hi.
The way you select text depends on if you're in browse mode or not. If you
want to select text in a non browse mode situation, things work as usual,
use the SHIFT+ARROW method. If, on the other hand, you're in a browse mode
situation such as on a web page or in an email message that you're reading,
move to the beginning of what you want to select, press F8, then move to the
end of what you want to select, press F8 again. You'll then be in a
dialogue where you can copy what you've selected to the clipboard. It works
great.
Have fun, and don't work too hard.
