Sounds like you are in read to end, press control once to shut up speech, then 
use control-shift-f.

when i am in the gw micro archives list of messages and the blind tech
archives list of messages i only have to press ctrl shft f  one time
to activate. however, as soon as i open a message to read it, i have
to press it twice to activate, i do a search for the word, subject.
don't know if it matters, i have the beta set to not go in and out of
browse mode. using i/e 8  win 7 64 bit home premium, thanks
