There are two applications, or at least there were. The download manager is the one that pops up when you do a download, manages the download and then adds the books downloaded to whichever applications you select in the settings. It works with iTunes, Windows Media Player, the Audible Manager and so on. I have mine set up to add to iTunes and the Audible Manager even though I never use the Audible Manager.

The Audible Manager doesn't have anything to do with downloads. It is like iTunes, WMP, WinAmp and so on. One can play books from it and can authorize various devices and then be used to add or remove books that the Download Manager has added to it on and off of authorized devices.

I didn't check the version of Audible Manager that I have. Since I use Apple devices now, I never even start up Audible Manager anymore. Even when I used Creative Labs players, I only used it to authorize new devices when I got them. I didn't think to check the version of Audible Manager since the discussion was about the management of downloads and Audible Manager doesn't have anything to do with that. It is basically Audible's version of WMP and iTunes in that it is for managing devices and content that has already been downloaded.

Regards,

Chris

I get the sense that we are dealing with two different software programs
here. I remember that there is one named audible manager and there is
another that I think works with iTunes named audible download manager.

That is interesting. The version I am using, that was installed quite some
time ago is listed as version 6.6.0.15. Makes me wonder which version is
working best. If Audible is having users download an older version now,
perhaps there are issues with the newer one. I haven't had any problems
unless other issues are occurring.

Chris

hmmm, if the downloa manager has ceased development, what is the correct
way now to download audible content? And once you download it, can you
play it on the computer or authorize a device, etc?

Development of Audible Manager has ceased, so there won't be any more
updates. At least that's what Audible Support told me a few months ago
when I contacted them about lock-ups which might just be those you are
getting. My Downloads always complete, however, so if I wait for some
time and then restart WE I usually find the audiobook on my hard drive
and in good order. So this might be annoying but not too critical,
especially with the restart Feature in place.
Kind regards,
Felix
