All great ideas David. It really is a good first project for someone, as you could do the minimum asked for to convince yourself you can do it; then, you could follow all of David's suggestions to encompass all the various forms and languages used for dates by WE users, making it a much more robust app (giving it plenty of room for you to learn more as you go).
