Aaron,
if the date always will show the current date, like your stated example tends
to prove, I question the design of your updating processes a bit. Several of
the apps you have listed here, are that old - and some of them would be rather
outdated in functionality - that I strongly doubt that anyone has installed
them today. Take an app like the TranslateLanguage. Far as I know, that app has
long been useless, and replaced by the Polyglot. Still, your list tells that
anyone has downloaded it today? Strange. Really questionable, I am sorry to
say. I could have picked a few other apps, but another user already showed you
a couple more.

Sorry, Aaron, I simply just think there must be an error in your updating
routines, if any app on the central will show you the date of today. Honestly,
yes, there is thousands of users, but still I have a rather hard time in
believing that any app that happens to be on the central, has been
downloaded/updated at any given date. Something in your registrering routines,
must have failed. Especially so, due to the rather narrow group of users, that
would be using some of the apps. The functionality and characteristics of an
app like the SayTools, would simply make little sense that anyone would be
downloading that frequently.

My guess is, Aaron, that your system takes the last date of access. That would
make more sense, ssince that would be the case whenever I start my screen
reader, and it goes to the website of any app I have installed, and check for
update. But last accessing date, is not the same as last downloading date - you
know. :) And, I do chance of claiming, that if your system really did register
last download date (the last time someone ACTUALLY DOWNLOADED the app), you
would see far different results.

Sorry, but you may want to check up on the date registering routines, in the
updater. OK, I agree with you, long as the date is showing up like you
illustrated, no my idea would not work. But that should be possible to alter,
in the way your server does its timestamping, shouldn't it? And, if now you got
that one smoothened out, would it then be possible to implement the feature?

Thanks,

Subject: Re: A small wanting for the App Central webpage

I'm not sure that this feature is as useful as it first seems. The reason
being automatic updates. If 100 people have installed your app, and each of
them has configured it to automatically notify of available updates, and those
people update each time their notified, then your last download date is going
to always be at least your last release date, if not the date one of those
people happens to turn on their computer and automatically update.

To prove my point, let me show you the current download dates for available

Since the last download date is pretty much always going to be the current
date, I don't think this information tells us anything useful.

  Thanks,

  Aaron

When I go to the site for one of my apps, on the GW App Central, I see a
few informations about the app. In the first list, I see when the app was
released, what size the file is, and how many downloads have been for the app.
As a developer of a couple of apps, I am quite interested in looking at how
many downloads have been for my app, since that indicates a bit about the
general interest for the app, and to what extend I should continue development.
Yet, if an app has been out for a while, and you see a number of a few hundred
downloads, this number doesn't really indicate much. I.e, if an app has been
out for three years, and there is 200 downloads, you don't know if that was 200
people going for the app when it was released, and later on simply dropped it.

A small wanting from my side, could it be posible to have a note on the
app's site, telling what date the last download took place? We don't need exact
time, just the date of last download. This would at least help in determining
if an app still has any interest.

Even for people who don't do development, if they see an app has not been
downloaded for the last three years, it might indicate something about its
validity. Maybe some other apps have been developed that does the job better,
or maybe certain features now are better handled natively by Window-Eyes. Yet,
the fact of old download date, could tell the user that he might be OK in doing
a bit of research, before relying too much on a given app.

GW, will it be posible for you to add the date onto the information on the
individual site for each app?

    Thanks,
