Isn't it possible to set, instead of

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment

some variable that would affect only Gwyddion?  This one seems to affect
all programs that use LANG (e.g. any POSIX-conforming program).  IOW it
is like writing

export LANG=...

to /etc/bashrc -- not something people would be grateful for.  If it is
so then it is too offensive to be released.

Also, apparently only the administrator can write in HKLM.
