Hi Yeti,

I have answered my own questions by reading your extensive manual (yes, I
know: RTFM!)

In my Windows program I can simply write:
Process.Start("C:\Program Files\Gwyddion\bin\gwyddion.exe", "--remote-new
--no-splash C:\Test.tiff")

Gwyddion starts up and loads my file as advertized (without dimensions and
scales, naturally).

Regarding file formats, I think your Simple Field format will do the job for
us. Thumbnails would make the images visible to the casual observer.

Is gwyddion-thumbnailer compatible with recent Windows OS? It ran without
complaint in TMS mode, but thumbnail views did not appear in Explorer.

Regards,
Mike
