4. I am using a densely woven linen because of its superior ability to absorb
moisture and its ability to withstand being washed at very high temperatures;
the downside is having to iron it dry but we are all used to ironing.

I hope this is of some use; best wishes to you all.

I think the biggest problem with all the studies done on which fabrics work
best is that none of the people doing them seem to really know anything about
the different fabrics. I was surprised that silk was initially not considered
a good fabric to use as it can be finely woven, and thinner, but thought maybe
it was too hard to breathe through. But there was no information about thread
count or type of the silks they chose to test, or for that matter for the linen
either. I read the one mentioned which said that a mixture of fabrics worked
best, but there again there was limited identification of what they used. They
did provide an outdated joann part number for the poly fabric they used, but
for the silk, nothing. On a guess they grabbed someone's silk scarf. So it is
unreproducible. A good study would compare like thread counts, and identify
which fabrics they used. & provide a picture of them. The combination study
did have a picture of the fabrics - under a microscope so not really useful in
IDing what silk they used - and they had a sort of thread count, but not in
inches or centimeters. I'd like to know, for example, if a fabric made with
over twisted yarn, so it has a slight texture, works better or worse. Or if the
fuzziness is why adding flannel makes it work better, or the batting. Well, in
2 years we might get that info, so for now it's open to debate which fabrics
work best once you get to a higher thread count.

On a happier note, I got to make some samples of card weaving for my University
class last quarter, so I learned a new skill. It's fun. On a sadder note,
this quarter I'm taking Global Health. Now I can tell you all the ways we're
scr*wed.

After all the fussing about finding a metal bit for the nose, my boyfriend said
he could order a thin sheet of aluminum and cut it to shape pretty easily. That
might be the best solution. Now I have to find the time to iron yards of
fabric.
