I corode nickel-plated needles, just the way my skin
chemistry works, so I end up with black needles.  
My gold-plated needles are still yellow, and the
platinum-plating is still white.

They'll still be subject to ordinary friction and
wear, so if you wear out regular needles, you'll also
wear out the fancy plated needles.
