I've been wondering-- and maybe this is something that is obvious to others, just that I've not really focused on Viking or Russian clothing.
I was looking at a Russian lacquer box showing a young woman and saw the lovely dress (sarafan?) she wore and it hit me-- that's a Viking "apron" dress! And I know the Rus were actually a Viking invasion, and that Russians are blonde because of the Vikings... Is the sarafan a relative of the apron dress??
